P. cognatum Meissn., Mon. Gen. Polyg. Prodr. 91 (1826). Syn: P. atpestre C. A. Meyer, Enum. PI. Cauc. 157 (1849). Perennial with a slender woody stock. Stems prostrate, green like the leaves. Ochreae hyaline, 3-nerved, conspicuous, longer than or as long as the internodes (rarely shorter in very lax (shaded?) specimens). Leaves oblong-elliptic, petiolate, often slightly mucronate. Flowers in fascicles in the leaf axils. Perianth pinkish, 4-5 mm, hardening and accrescent in fruit. Nut glossy, included in the perianth. Fl. 5-9.
