A. remotiflora (Boiss. & Heldr.) Alef. in Öst. Bot. Zeitschr. 12: 253 (1862). Syn: Althaea remotiflora Boiss. & Heldr. in Boiss., Diagn. ser. 1(8): 108 (1849). Tall perennial. Stems velutinous with small, adpressed stellate hairs. Leaves oblong-orbicular, cordate at the base, the upper divided into 5-7 lobes, the lobes extending for c. ½ the length of the blade, stellate-pilose above and beneath. Involucre small, less than \ as long as the calyx. Calyx conspicuously striate. Petals white or pink, up to 30 mm. Mericarps hairy in the furrow only, very prominently rugose, with interlocking margins. Fl. 7-8. Rocky places up to 1800 m. Type: [Turkey C3 Antalya] Adalia, in campis maris finitimus, vii 1845, Held-reich (E!). C4 Içel: Silifke to Mersin, 14 km E of Silifke, Hub.-Mor. 10551! Cß Hatay: Amanus, Akil-Yeh, 200 m, Eig & Zohary 1607. C9 Van: Baþkale to Hakkari, 1800 m, McNeill 686! Syrian Desert (incl. Djebel Druze). Zohary (op. cit. 226) recognises a var. druzorum, to which he refers the Amanus specimen cited above. |
