Bulb c. 1.5-2 cm diam.; outer tunics blackish, breaking up into fibres; bulb-lets 0.7-1 cm, yellowish-brown, shining. Stem c. 80 cm. Leaves 5, 3-4 mm broad, flat, canaliculate with scabrid veins; sheaths scabrid. Spathe caducous.Umbel spherical, 2.5-5 cm diam., dense. Pedicels unequal, outer with laciniate bracteolesc. 1 cm. Perianth urceolate-campanulate; segments white or greenish-white, 4-5(-6) mm, outer ± narrowly elliptic-ovate, usually ± scabridulous-papillose on back and margin, obtuse, inner ovate, glabrous, subtruncate at apex. Filaments longer than segments; median cusp of inner ones shorter than lateral cusps and half as long as basal lamina. Style exserted. Capsule globose, 3 mm, included in perianth. FL 6-7. Quercus forest, meadows, dry stony slopes, 1050-2100 m. Type: [Iraq] Mosul, ad confines Turciae prov. Hakari, inter Dohuk et Amadiya, in quercetis saxosis supraSirsank, 1200m, 10-12 vii 1957, Rechinger 11901 (holo. W!). S. & S.E. Anatolia; very scattered. The Turkish plants differ from the holotype in having a relatively smaller perianth (4-4.5 mm) and more ex-serted filaments. They are rather similar to a specimen collected in Iraq near Zawita (Al-Rawi 23593!) which Wendelbo (mss.) considers as being intermediate between A. trachycoleum and A. qaradaghense. |
