S. altissima (L.) Pall, Illustr. 49 (1803). Syn: Chenopodium altissimum L., Sp PI. 221 (1753). Ic: Reichb., Ic. Fl. Germ. 24: t. 289 (1909). Richly branched annual, up to 2 m. Leaves subulate, 30 x 1 mm. Flower glomeruli 3-many-flowered. Perianth obovate, the segments somewhat cucullate . above. Seed vertical or horizontal, smooth (or occasionally with reticulate markings). Stigmas 3(-4), filiform-spathulate, densely papillose. Fl. 7-9. Sandy, salty stream banks, waste places, 900-1250 m.
