Balkans, Caucasia, Iran, Cyprus; Lebanon? A very variable species whose variation has been discussed by us in Notes R.B.G. Edinb. 26: 197 (1965), where reference is given to other treatments. We have not been able to recognise any taxa within C. ornithopodioides; the two varieties recognised by Boissier - vars. sessilis & stipitata - are only 2 of a very large number of 1-character variants which could be described.
