T.kurdicum Hedge in Notes R.B.G. Edinb. 23: 547, f. 1 (1961). Figure 13, p. 257. Glaucous perennial with woody rootstock and spreading sterile shoots, flowering shoots 4-10 cm. Basal leaves oblong, c. 10 x 2.5 mm drawn out at base into petiole, rosette-forming. Cauline leaves few, oblong, c. 8 x 2 mm, amplexi-caul, auriculate or not. Petals white, 5-8 x 2.5 mm. Inflorescence ± corymbose, elongating slightly in fruit. Siliculae slightly compressed, oblong, c. 5-7 x 3-5 mm, acute or slightly emarginate at apex, fruiting style 1.5 mm; septum 7-9 x 3 mm. Seeds golden brown, smooth. 2-3 in each loculus. Fl. 5-6. High alpine limestone screes, 3200-3600 m. Type: [Turkey B9 Van] Gevaş, Artos Da., mobile limestone screes, 3600 m, 15 vii 1954, Davis & Polunin, D, 22806 (holo. E! iso. K!). Kurdistan. B9 Van: d. Şatak, Kavuşşahap Da., 3200 m, D. 23125! N. Iraq. Ir.-Tur. element. Known from a number of gatherings in the high alps of Kurdistan. With a tendency to form local mountain races, the variability of the species is discussed with the original description. A specimen from Hakkari (Cilo Da., 3600 m, D. 24205!) may also be referable to this species but the valves have been shed. |
