A. minus (L.) Rothm. in Feddes. Rep. 50: 77 (1941). Annual, up to 25 cm. Leaves oblanceolate or obovate-spathulate. Racemes strict, up to 15 cm, branches, if present, divergent or ascending. Sepals deciduous. Petals gradually attenuate, emarginate or entire, 0.4-0.9 mm wide. Fruits with mono-morphic indumentum of large or small stellate hairs with equal or unequal rays; valves ± unequally inflated. Styles 0.5-l(-l.6) mm, rigid, hairy. Seeds winged, wing (0.2-)0.3-0.4 mm wide. Two varieties may be recognised: 1. Styles 0.7-1.3 mm; fruit hairs with equal rays var. minus 1. Styles 1-2 mm; fruit hairs with unequal rays var. micranthum var. micranthum (Meyer) Dudley in Arb. Univ. Math.-Nat. ser. Bergen 13: 6 (1963). Syn: A. micranthum Meyer in Ind. Sem. Hort. Petrop. 1: 22 (1835)! A. campestre var. micranthum & genuinum sensu Boiss., Fl. Or. 1: 284 (1867). Fl. 2-6. Open places, cultivated fields, 30-2200 m.
