| T. assemanii Blanche in Boiss., Fl. Or. 3:791 (1875). Syn: T. primigenium Hand.-Mazz., Monogr. Tarax. 17 (1907) pro parte; T. primigeniforme van Soest in Proc. Koninkl. Nederl. Akad. Wetensch. ser. C, 69:364 (1966)! Plant base hairy. Leaves narrowly obovate or lanceolate, often shortly lobate or sharply dentate. Involucre narrow (3-4 mm broad), c. 8 mm long; outer phyllaries narrowly ovate or lanceolate, short (up to 3.5 mm), blackish or pale pinkish-brown, with a narrow whitish margin. Ligules pale yellow, � red on outside. Stigmas pure yellow. Achenes straw-coloured, inconspicuously elongated into cone; pappus 4 mm, very pale brownish. Fl. 7-8(-9). Damp places in calcareous mountains, mostly above 2000 m. Type: [Lebanon] ad fontes et rivulos supra Dimam et ad Hasram, Blanche (holo. G, iso. JE!). S.W., S. & E. Anatolia. There is confusion in the numbering of the Kotschy specimens; the Bulgar Da. locality is mentioned under 152c (cf. 6. T. oliganthum) as well as Gisyl Deppe. A specimen from C4 I�el (Anamur, �amurlu Y. to Olucak, 2000 m, D. 16299!) may belong to T. assemanii. When no achenes are present, T. assemanii can easily be confused with T. bithynicum D C.; in the latter the pappus is white and a beak is present. |
