Flowering stems erect, sericeous at least above, up to 1 m. Leaves 2-3-pinnatisect, lobes ± oblong, subacute, clearly decurrent along segments, greyish or whitish sericeous on- both surfaces. Inflorescence a narrow or broad panicle. Bracts similar to leaves but smaller. Capitula depressed-globose, many-flowered, 3-5(-6)mm broad. Involucre 1-3 mm long. Outer phyllaries mostly herbaceous, sericeous; inner longer, mostly scarious. Receptacle conspicuously pilose. Outer flowers filiform, female, inner herma-phrodite, fertile, corolla yellowish, glabrous. Fl. 6-9. Streamsides, fields, slopes, steppe, s.1.-2600 m. Described from Europe (Hb.
