A. detruncatum C.A. Meyer ex Schott, Prodr. Syst. Aroid. 80 (1860). [This account replaces those of A. conophalloides Kotschy ex Schott [8:50] and A. elongatum subsp. detruncatum (C.A. Meyer ex Schott) H. Riedl [8:49] in the main Flora.] Tuber vertical. Petiole of leaves (10-)l 5-45(-55) cm, uppermost with long sheath. Lamina oblong-hastate to -sagittate, 8-21(-25) x 4-16(-18.5) cm. Scape 10-60 cm. Spathe 11.5-38(-40) x l-6.5(-8) cm, narrowly lanceolate to lanceolate, green, tinged purple outside, green or rarely whitish inside (usually becoming purple within later); tube 2-6-5(-7) cm, pure white or whitish inside, without purple band. Spadix 8-24(-33) cm, (l/2-)3/5-3/4(-7/9) x spathe. Female zone (7-)10-25 mm, lower sterile zone(2-)4.5-9.5(-12)mm, male zone 3-11(-15) mm, upper sterile zone 2-6(-10) mm. Sterile filaments purple or violet, very rarely yellowish, 1.5-9 mm. Appendix shortly stipitate, 6-19(-27) cm; club 1.3-25 mm broad, violet, purple, chocolate-brown or yellowish-brown, becoming livid when old. Fl. (4-J5-7. Rocky places, steppe, roadsides, Quercus and Juniperus scrub, etc., (70-)400-2060 m. 1. Most extra-Turkish plants fall towards the 'conophalloides' end of the variation spectrum, with massive appendices.
