Çatak, 1500 m, Nábèlèk. Eurasia? N. America. Two cytological subspecies, which are not always distinguishable on the basis of their morphology alone, have been recognized in N. America. These are subsp. angustifolium-2n = 18, and subsp. circumvagum Mosquin-2n = 36, 54 (vide Mosquin in Brittonia 18:167, 1966). Mosquin has referred two of the Turkish specimens available to him (from A7 Gümüşane: pass between Köse and Gümüşane, 2000 m, D. 31948! and A9 Kars: Sarikamiş, 2100 m, D. 32644!-an aberrant, grazed specimen) to subsp. angustifolium. The remainder he referred to subsp. circumvagum. Since no chromosome counts have been obtained from Turkish material, the validity of these two subspecies in Turkey cannot be ascertained. |
