Mediterranean area (extending to Portugal). Medit. element. A. citriodorus was differentiated from this species on the grounds of being viscid-glandular, more widely branched, with leaves all sessile and smaller capitula. This is somewhat unsatisfactory since the indumentum of A. aquaticus is glandular, the degree of branching and size of capitulum are variable and its leaves are at most subpetiolate. A. citriodorus is also said to have pale yellow flowers and to be lemon-scented. There is only one record of it from Turkey (Kos, Rech. 8003), about which Rechinger (Fl. Aeg. 621) notes that the specimen tends towards A. aquaticus. |
