Bulb oblong-ovoid, (1.8-)2-2.5 cm diam.; outer tunics reticulate-fibrous, produced into a long neck. Stem (40-)60-150 cm. Leaves 3-4, fistulose, 3-11 mm broad, cylindrical, rapidly narrowing towards apex. Spathe 2-vaived, soon caducous; valves ± equalling umbel, beaked. Umbel globose, (1.5-)2-4.5(-5) cm diam., many-flowered, dense. Pedicels 2-5 x perianth, bracteolate. Perianth ovoid-campanulate; segments dark purple, brownish-green, yellowish-green or green, often narrowly white-margined, 2.5-3.5 mm, outer ones concave, broadly elliptic, obtuse and rounded at apex or emarginate, shorter than elliptic-obovate, emarginate inner ones. Filaments longer than perianth segments, glabrous or ciliate at base; outer simple or sometimes with 1-2 teeth on both sides; inner 3-5(-7)-cuspidate; median cusp of inner filaments somewhat shorter or half as long as lateral cusps. Anthers yellow or violet. Capsule c. 3.5 mm. Fl. 6-7(-8). Montane steppe, saline places, volcanic craters, rocky slopes in Pinus halepensis and P. nigra subsp. pallasiana forest, 100-3050 m.

Caucasus, N. & W. Iran, N. Iraq, W. Syria. Ir.-Tur. element. Vvedensky (Fİ. URSS 4:127, 1935) and Grossheim (FL Kavk. ed. 2, 2:122,1940) differentiated A. viride from A. dictyoprasum by taller stems, broader leaves, larger umbels and perianth colour. The differences in size of the various plant parts are within the range of variability of A. dictyoprasum. The colour of the perianth segments was described as dark purple or brownish-green in A. dictyoprasum and dull green with white margins in A. viride. In E. Anatolia, however, purple- and green-flowered plants often occur together and some specimens have purple, white-margined perianth segments. In S. Anatolia only plants with green or brownish-green, white-margined perianth segments have been found.
